- At 3 years the BMW 1 Series fails 10.4% of MOTs (89,393 tests), 1.6 points below the 12.1% for all cars that age. At 21 years it fails 38.2% (1,135 tests), 3.9 points below the 42.1% average.
- The gap is widest at 15 years: 7.5 points below all cars.
- Its most common structural or mechanical fail item at 9 years: Shock absorber leaking, at 1.4 per 100 MOTs.
