What can go wrong

On certain 6 and 8 cylinder engine vehicles a faulty rear engine compartment panel/bulkhead may have been installed. It is therefore possible that the panel/bulkhead may contact the left exhaust catalytic converter due to insufficient clearance. If the catalytic converter is subjected to high temperatures due to heavy driving conditions i.e. full throttle or towing then there is a risk of the rear engine compartment panel igniting and a vehicle fire ensuing.

The fix

Recall all affected vehicles to inspect the clearance between the rear engine compartment panel/bulkhead and the exhaust catalytic converter. If the clearance is insufficient then the rear engine compartment panel/bulkhead will be replaced.

Is a specific car affected? A recall lists models and build dates, not individual vehicles, so these pages cannot tell you whether one car is included. Enter the registration on the DVSA vehicle recall checker on GOV.UK, or give the vehicle identification number (VIN) to the manufacturer or one of its dealers. Buying used? Ask the seller for proof that any recall work was done.
