What can go wrong

As a result of incorrect machining of the oil seal installation aperture in the transfer cover by one of the transfer box suppliers it is possible the oil seal may move from its intended position in the casing. This can result Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) passing from the main gearbox into the transfer casing causing the ATF pressure to drop which will result in poor shifting and the illumination of a warning lamp on the instrument panel. Also as the oil level in the transfer box increase it can leak out from the transfer box breather pipe onto the road surface. In the most serious case the vehicle can lose all drive.

The fix

Recall all affected vehicles to inspect the transfer box. If found to be one of the affected transfer boxes then the transfer box will be replaced.

Is a specific car affected? A recall lists models and build dates, not individual vehicles, so these pages cannot tell you whether one car is included. Enter the registration on the DVSA vehicle recall checker on GOV.UK, or give the vehicle identification number (VIN) to the manufacturer or one of its dealers. Buying used? Recall wording is DVSA's, with capitals and punctuation tidied and American spellings such as tire, center and windshield given in British English. On this page we also replaced a word that reads as a rating or an endorsement with a plain one. We list a recall when its make and model match a car or van family with at least 1,000 DVSA MOT tests from 2022 to 2025, and when the maker of the vehicle issued it.
