What can go wrong

The steering gearbox securing bolts may not have been tightened in the correct sequence. This could result in relaxation of the retaining torque at the pinion end with a reduction in steering precision and the possibility of stiffness

The fix

Recall the affected vehicles and remove the steering box pinion end bolts one by one to check the condition of the threads Any bolt showing signs of thread damage will be replaced and in all cases the bolts will be retightened in the correct sequence

Is a specific car affected? A recall lists models and build dates, not individual vehicles, so these pages cannot tell you whether one car is included. Enter the registration on the DVSA vehicle recall checker on GOV.UK, or give the vehicle identification number (VIN) to the manufacturer or one of its dealers. Buying used?
